Bulgwang-dong Catholic Church
불광동성당
Church · Kim Swoo-geun · 1986 · Eunpyeong-gu
Address: 서울 은평구 통일로 (불광동, 동명여고 옆)
One of Kim Swoo-geun's last works, finished the year he died. Instead of one big mass, the church is a cluster of small concrete volumes that people compare to standing apostles or praying hands. You enter by a small side door and climb a ramp with the Stations of the Cross that wraps around and through the building before reaching the sanctuary, lit from all four sides by stained glass. Listed as a Seoul Future Heritage.
Getting in: Working parish church on a slope off Tongil-ro, between Bulgwang and Yeonsinnae stations. The ramp and exterior are easy to see; enter quietly outside Mass times.
