Myeongdong Theater

명동예술극장

Theatre · Not recorded · 1936 (reopened 2009) · Jung-gu

Address: 서울 중구 명동길 35

A corner-sited cinema opened in 1936 as the Meiji-za. It became Seoul's national theatre in the 1960s, then the office of a finance company after 1973, until the culture ministry bought it back in 2009. The restored facade now stands out among Myeong-dong's shopfronts, and it is a working drama theatre again.

Getting in: Exterior on the main Myeong-dong shopping street; the lobby opens before performances. 5 minutes from Myeong-dong or Euljiro 1-ga stations.
