From Court to Overpass
Old facades, new skins, a highway garden
≈2.0 km · ≈30 min walking · Easy · Jung-gu · Start: City Hall station · End: Seoul Station station
Three ways of handling the past: a facade kept as a screen, a glass wave over a 1920s hall, and a motorway turned park.
Stops
- Seoul Museum of Art (Seosomun) (서울시립미술관 서소문본관)
The front of the former Supreme Court was kept as a screen, with a new museum built behind it. Free entry to most exhibitions. - Seoul City Hall (서울시청)
A glass wave that leans over the colonial-era city hall (1925–26), which now houses the Seoul Library. A direct, debated piece of old-and-new in the civic centre. - Seoullo 7017 (서울로7017)
A 1970 car overpass turned into a pedestrian garden in 2017. The name joins those two years: '70' and '17'.
Best time: Daytime. SeMA is closed on Mondays; Seoullo is open around the clock.
Tips
- Seoullo 7017 is lit up after dark if you want to end the walk at night.
Access
Level city streets. Seoullo 7017 has lifts at its main entrances; Seoul City Hall and SeMA are step-free.
