Amsa and Gwangnaru: Seoul's First Village
6,000-year-old pit houses, then the quiet eastern riverbank
≈1.9 km · ≈25 min walking · Easy · Gangdong-gu · Start: Amsa History Park station · End: Amsa station
Long before there was a city, people lived on this bend of the Han: the Amsa-dong site has the remains of a Neolithic village with rebuilt pit houses. Walk down to Gwangnaru Hangang Park, the least crowded of the river parks, with an ecological wetland and long cycle paths.
Stops
- Amsa-dong Prehistoric Settlement (암사동선사유적박물관)
A Neolithic village site from around 6,000 years ago, found after a flood in 1925. A small museum shows comb-pattern pottery, and reconstructed pit houses stand in the park. - Gwangnaru Hangang Park (광나루한강공원)
The quiet, green eastern end of the Han River parks, with marshland, an ecological park, open lawns and bicycle rental.
Best time: A weekday afternoon; the riverbank is calm and good for cycling.
Tips
- The prehistoric site is closed on Mondays.
- Amsa History Park station (Line 8) opened in 2021 and is the closest to the site.
Access
Level paths through the prehistoric site and along the river.
